About Instructor
This course provides all 5 subjects (English, Maths, Science, Computer Science, Geography)
Maths
Maths is one of the most important subjects in a child’s development. Mathematics skills are needed in everyday life, and here at NMLC we make sure that our students succeed in gaining those vital skills to a high level. The curriculum also shares links to our Computer Science program.
At Nurturing Minds Learning Centre we implement a bespoke curriculum taught by experienced tutors with a track road of achieving outstanding results. Students will complement their work with textbooks for revision and exam practice which are used on a regular basis throughout the year in order to test the knowledge and understanding of the subject.
By supplementing with mental maths practical skills, students build their mathematical fluency without the need for rote learning. The high quality teaching alongside textbooks and workbooks enable students to achieve maths mastery at their own pace. All national curriculum topics will be covered for preparation for GCSE.
English
In order for our students to receive the best support for English, we only use resources which have been proven to be effective and rated highly by teachers across the country, as English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. Our aim is to promote a high standard language and literacy by equipping students with a strong command of the spoken and written words, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.
students will also take part in a spellings programme enabling them to spell unfamiliar words independently. Appropriate resources are used for parents to work on with their students at home, helping parents assess their child’s learning on a weekly basis.
We also have a recommended reading list that includes books from a wide range of sources and viewpoints, in order to build the student’s knowledge and understanding of the world, supporting creativity and independent thinking.
English is taught by Ustadh Noor who is also Head of English at Al-Noor Tuition Centre. Ustadh has high expectations of his students and his careful attention to detail ensures that students will be pushed to achieve their best.
Science
Here at NMLC, we teach our students more than just the basics of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. We teach skills that are important in every aspect of our lives, whether it is how to make observations, collecting information or using logical thinking to draw conclusions.
Students are able to work in teams and participate in fun experiments and activities, making inferences to daily life so the students can immediately relate their knowledge to the world around them.
The national curriculum is taught using the “Activate” Curriculum by Oxford and classes are designed to allow the students to explore their curiosity and question how things work around them. Practical learning is at the heart of our lessons, enabling the students to put their learning into practice.
A new science lab is being introduced in 2020 in order to support practical learning and experimentation to test their findings.
Computer Science
Here at NMLC we are passionate about ensuring that every child has a world-class computing education. Our world is digital, an understudying of computer science will enable them to make informed choices in their digital world. This is important for all our students, not just those who will become the software engineers of the future.
Every child has the right to a world class computing education. We teach the National curriculum including the understanding of the fundamentals of computing, algorithms that reflect computational thinking, and use of logical reasoning as well as programming and graphical design.
Each child will learn skills required for the digital age such as account management, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
We will also introduce them to Business Management, e-commerce and the design technology cycle insha’Allah.
Geography
During our geography lessons, we aim to inspire within our students a fascination and interest in the world and its people. Students will develop an understanding of key human and physical processes, as their knowledge of the world grows throughout their studies.
All lesson objectives have been matched to the national curriculum, which ensures that all our students are being taught in line with the latest curriculum. Students will learn about current issues such as global warming as well as master their knowledge of places around the world.
Being able to understand and use geographical vocabulary is a key objective of our lessons as well as learning key skills such as interpretation and representation of data, map reading, observation and analysis. We also complement the curriculum topics with selected field trips to cement the skills learned to give real life examples of its practical use. We also teach and implement the use of computing within our lessons such as building blogs, spreadsheets and using GIS Systems to represent information.
