English

The English National Curriculum is enriched with skills which the students learn in order to communicate effectively through speaking, listening, reading and writing. We understand that good command of the English language will lead to high achievement at GCSE and beyond in all subjects as the basic skills of textual analysis, note taking, and expression are vital. Here at Nurturing Minds Learning Centre we follow the English National Curriculum and adapt the resources to make it fun and exciting for the students to learn. 

In order for our students to receive the best support for English, we only use resources which have been proven to be effective and rated highly by teachers across the country, as English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. Our aim is to promote a high standard language and literacy by equipping students with a strong command of the spoken and written words, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment. 

students will also take part in a spellings programme enabling them to spell unfamiliar words independently. Appropriate resources are used for parents to work on with their students at home, helping parents assess their child’s learning on a weekly basis.

We also have a recommended reading list that includes books from a wide range of sources and viewpoints, in order to build the student’s knowledge and understanding of the world, supporting creativity and independent thinking.

English is taught by Ustadh Noor who is also Head of English at Al-Noor Tuition Centre.  Ustadh has high expectations of his students and his careful attention to detail ensures that students will be pushed to achieve their best.
